Of course, it's a RepRap, and it's not made by MakerBot. Specifically, it is a Prusa i3 Rework kit, and it's now laid out on the workshop table, waiting to be assembled.
I knew that now was the time to get a 3D printer- the community is becoming large enough that things are now very, very accessible, 3D printers are still an emerging technology, and I am excited to hit the ground running. I can't wait to get everything working as soon as I can.
This is a huge deal for me- it means I can make many plastic parts that I would like at my own speed, including those that I will use for Ramrod and for other projects. Hopefully I can do a bit of experimentation with the printer as well.
Currently, I need to get metric drill bits for the build, and then I can get started. I'll get back to the blog once it is built or I have updates from other projects. Also, there is a Flickr album for images of the 3D printer build- so check there if you are interested.
